As Shorter College approaches its 140th anniversary, the institution is celebrating another milestone of leadership and recognition. The Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce/Associated Industries of Arkansas (State Chamber/AIA) has announced the selection of Shorter College President Dr. Jeffery Norfleet as one of 53 accomplished professionals chosen for Leadership Arkansas Class XX.
Leadership Arkansas, established in 2006, is a premier program that unites leaders from across the state to explore challenges, opportunities, and solutions that shape Arkansas’ future. In nearly two decades of the program, this year marks the first time Shorter College has been represented in Leadership Arkansas, a historic moment for the institution as it continues to expand its presence and influence statewide.
“These leaders represent the best of Arkansas, innovative, passionate, and committed to building a stronger state,” said Toni Lindsey, Director of Leadership Arkansas. “This year’s class brings a dynamic mix of backgrounds and expertise, and I look forward to seeing how their perspectives evolve as they explore the challenges and opportunities that face Arkansas.”
Dr. Norfleet shared his excitement about the opportunity:
“It is an honor to be selected as a member of the Leadership Arkansas Class, a program that brings together visionary leaders from across our state to collaborate, innovate, and drive meaningful change. My participation in this initiative aligns seamlessly with the mission and future direction of Shorter College. As one of the nation’s private, two-year Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Shorter College is uniquely positioned to serve as a catalyst for educational access, workforce development, and economic empowerment.”
Founded in 1886, Shorter College has endured challenges, embraced growth, and emerged stronger. The college has built a reputation for resilience and innovation in higher education. As the institution prepares to celebrate 140 years of opening doors and creating pathways, Dr. Norfleet’s selection to Leadership Arkansas stands as a testament to Shorter’s ongoing impact, not only in the classroom but also across the state of Arkansas.
