16. Educational Records and FERPA Compliance

Shorter College is committed to protecting the privacy of student education records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”).

Scope of FERPA
FERPA applies to education records maintained by Shorter College that are directly related to a student and maintained by the institution or a party acting on its behalf.

Limitations of Website Submissions
Information submitted through the Site, including forms, inquiries, or applications, may not be considered part of a student’s official education record unless and until it is incorporated into institutional systems governed by FERPA.

Use and Disclosure
Shorter College will not disclose personally identifiable information from education records without the student’s prior written consent, except as permitted or required by law, including but not limited to:

  • Disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interest
  • Compliance with legal obligations or lawful requests

No Compensation
You understand and agree that no compensation will be provided for the use of such Media unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Opt-Out Requests
Individuals who do not wish to be photographed or recorded should notify Shorter College in advance where reasonably possible. While we will make reasonable efforts to honor such requests, we cannot guarantee exclusion in all circumstances, particularly in public or group settings.

Ownership of Content
All Media captured or created by or on behalf of Shorter College is the property of Shorter College unless otherwise specified in writing.

User-Submitted Content
By submitting content including photos, videos, testimonials, or other materials, you grant Shorter College a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, modify, and distribute such content for institutional purposes.

Third-Party Rights
You represent that any content you submit does not infringe upon the rights of any third party, including intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
